can you dig it?

Lately, I’ve been fairly addicted to the British TV detective drama, George Gently. I’m a huge fan of British crime shows in general (Sherlock, Inspector Morse, Endeavour, Lewis…), but I’m particularly keen on ones that showcase vintage fashions. Gently takes place in North East England in the late 1960s. For my vintage clothing Etsy shop, The Gibbson Girl, I’m always on the look out for 60s clothing. It’s absolutely my favorite era, clothing-wise: a-line dresses, bright colors, floral prints, charming glasses frames, and skinny ties. Love it!

While I haven’t acquired much 60s wear (yet!) for the Gibbson Girl, I do have some 1970s (my second favorite era!) vintage pieces that are, well, far out, man.

harbourside coffee in newburyport

Today I made a trip to Newburyport, Massachusetts, stopping at one of my favorite locales…and trying out a new one. And I wasn’t disappointed with either! My first stop was the Plum Island Coffee Roasters, a quaint cafe tucked away at the water’s edge of a marina. A bit tricky to find, the cafe was well worth the search with its delicious coffee (today’s roast was “port wine”) and harbor views.

The next stop was Giuseppe‘s, my family’s go-to Italian restaurant. Giuseppe’s made a name for themselves with their delicious take out and have recently opened a sit-in restaurant as well. We picked up some arrabbiata sauce and a Mediterranean sandwiches (absolutely delicious!). Makes me very excited to head to Europe- and Italy- in just a week!

my first flea market adventure

The weather was cold and windy yesterday for my first flea market selling the Gibbson Girl’s vintage clothing wears. Unfortunately, this translated into low traffic and low sales for this first try. That said, I still had a great time hanging out with my younger sister, people watching, and chatting with fellow vendors. It was a good experience, despite the disappointments. I’ll be giving it another go next weekend, so wish me better luck next time!

waterfalls + covered bridges

I spent much of the day Saturday preparing for my first-ever flea market for my Etsy vintage clothing shop, the Gibbson Girl. But I did manage to get away for a run through beautiful Hampton Falls. I slowed down enough to snap some photos along the way at my favorite spot: the newly renovated cover bridge that overlook the town’s namesake.

new hampshire seaside views

A stay at my parent’s home in New Hampshire would not be complete without a trip to the beach. Many people are surprised to learn that New Hampshire has a coastline (18 miles of it to be exact. I ran it all one afternoon, in fact). The shore is rocky and just as, if not more, beautiful in the “off season” than the busy summertime. Today, the wind was chilly but the cloudy sky made for some gorgeous photographs. This was the first time I’ve taken my new Canon to the beach, so I went crazy with the shots, snapping a few that I particularly love:

I always enjoy visiting the charming New England town of Exeter, New Hampshire. Small but brimming with history, Exeter never ceases to delight me in some way. Today, I visited D Squared Java and enjoyed a made-to-order pour over coffee and a vegan gluten free cookie. D Squared proved to be a quality coffee house with an endearing atmosphere.

I spent the day getting The Gibbson Girl ready for the flea market! This Sunday I’ll step out of my comfort zone to sell my vintage wares person-to-person at a local flea market. Wish me luck! (And if you have any tips, I’m all ears!).

equal pay day: what does it mean?

Equal Pay Day 2015 #100DaysofMiaPrima

April 14th is Equal Pay Day. I’m a few days late to the game, but this issue is too important to pass up.

A not-so-fun fact: April 14th was chosen as Equal Pay Day because it represents how far into 2015 that women must work to to earn as much as men did in 2014. That’s 104 days, folks.

In case you missed it, here it is again: women have to work 469 days to earn the same amount of income men make in 365 days.

In other words, women only make 78 cents to every dollar men make. And women of color make even less.

And one more time to really drive it home: Over her career lifetime, a woman will make on average nearly a half a million dollars less than her male counterparts. A half a million dollars less.

Learn more about the gender wage gap here.

And here.

Now that you know, spread the word!

Gender Wage Gap

Cheers (for #EqualPayNow)!
