going dutch

About nine months ago my twin sister visited Pittsburgh from The Netherlands, where she currently lives. I’m going to be honest, I always considered myself the more fashionable twin….until my sister soaked up European style and returned to the States in outfits I’m constantly envious of.  I’ll be visiting my sister in Amsterdam early next month and we’ll finally be reunited. But until then, the below photos from her last trip to Pgh were too good not to share.

Bonus points if you can tell who is who in these shots!

yoga in the (sculpture) garden

During my Texas adventures just a week or so ago, I made sure to spend a couple days in Austin. Somehow, I discovered a yoga class being held at the Umlauf Sculpture Garden. The class was an absolutely sublime experience! The weather was marvelous (75 degrees and sunny), the class was challenging (I did a handstand!), the scenery exquisite (see below), and the fellow yoga-goers were exceptionally nice (I was advised to visit both the Barton Natural Spring and Taco Deli; two sites not on my initial list but a must while visiting Austin). I also had a pleasant time wandering the sculpture garden after the class and taking photographs of the sculptural works of artist Charles Umlauf.

It’s pretty gloomy here in Pittsburgh today. Storm clouds and rain, included. These photos certainly take me back to better weather and great adventures. Hope they do the same for you!

Cheers!

these streets

For a long time, I could never justify purchasing a beautiful new digital SLR camera. After all, I wasn’t a photographer. Sure, I have a degree in art and I create a blog that relies so much on imagery. But still, I was no Sartorialist, and I never could be. It was almost if I had convinced myself that there were so many people- bloggers, artists, whoever- being such amazing photographers that there was not room left for an ammeter to try her hand. And that who would bother looking at my work, as rudimentary as it would be, when they could look at a professional’s!?

But the truth it, no professional is having the same experiences that I’m having now: traveling, exploring my new city, finding my personal style, working in fashion, becoming a vegan athlete. And that is reason enough for me to grab a camera and shoot away. So join me on the next step with Mia Prima Casa, as I experiment and dive even deeper into what it means to be who I am, digital SLR and all.

Cheers!

p.s. Explore the streets I’ve been walking and running and  driving and riding on for a year now. Pittsburgh is a city of grit and charm, so take a moment to catch a glimpse:
