jumpsuit love

Jumpsuits, rompers, onesies. Whatever you call them, they’ve garnered quite a following. Last Sunday at the Billboard Music Awards, Taylor Swift donned a (controversial) white Balmain jumpsuit that absolutely slayed– and in my opinion paid excellent tribute to her killer new Bad Blood music video.

Pants on the red carpet? Yes, please! Now if we can only convince Cannes that flats are also a chic choice…

la beauté dans la mort

The last time I was in Paris (four years ago), I visited the typical tourist attractions: the Eiffel Tower, the Champe des L’Eels, the Louvre… So this weekend, with these main tourist sites of the way (so to speak), I made sure I made time to explore new locals. My sister, a fan of Oscar Wilde, suggested the Cimetière du Père-Lachaise. And I had been determined to visit the Catacombs ever since I tried and failed three years ago (fun fact: they’re closed on Mondays). The result was a day no doubt a bid morbid. But no less inspiring. In truth, there is la beauté dans la mort.

“Yes, death. Death must be so beautiful. To lie in the soft brown earth, with the grasses waving above one’s head, and listen to silence. To have no yesterday, and no to-morrow. To forget time, to forget life, to be at peace.”

-Oscar Wilde

#100DaysofMiaPrima

Are you ready for this?

I’m taking up the #The100DayProject challenge starting…now!

For 100 days- April 6th to July 14th- I’ll be posting a blog post a day right here on MiaPrimaCasa. The best part? This is bound to be one of my most adventurous summers yet, and you can witness it all unfold right here. Soon, I’ll be leaving Pittsburgh for New Hampshire, only to head on out to The Netherlands, then sprinkle in some train rides to Paris and Belgium until I’ll finally be off to upstate New York by early July.

If you love travel, vintage shopping, vegan eating, and lots of cat pictures, check back here daily to see what I’ve been up to…and what’s inspiring me for 100 days.

Follow me on Instagram for daily updates and filter to #100DaysofMiaPrima to see my progress on the challenge.

In the meantime, I’ve got an apartment to pack…

Until to tomorrow!

what’s in my ferragamo? #girlboss

I like to share what I’m reading. Why? Because books are so much better when you can talk about them. If you’ve ever read Pride and Prejudice and made it to the “Mr.Darcy letter scene,” and you have no one to share in your agonizing joy, then you know exactly what I’m talking about. Or, oh, let’s say you’ve just finished Allegiant and for some reason NO ONE at your office has finished it too. Who are you supposed to get angry with!?

That said, here’s my first post in a silly-titled series, I’m calling, “What’s in My Ferragamo?” Of course, I’m referring to my black Ferragamo bag that just happens to be the perfect size to fit whatever I’m reading at the moment.

#GIRLBOSS

#GIRLBOSS by NastyGal CEO, Sophia Amoruso. If you haven’t heard of NastyGal, don’t worry, you can click this link without of fear of sexually explicit content (trust me).

#GIRLBOSS

Here’s my two cents on the read: Amoruso’s story is impressive and her advice is inspirational, but her business tips come off a bit too elementary for my taste. (Of course, that’s coming from me- a girl with a business degree who also happens to work in fashion industry.) Nevertheless, it reenergized my passion for fashion (business), and there are some pretty awesome quotables in there too. Not to mention some charming illustrations.

So? Have you read #GIRLBOSS? What do you think?

the power of food

Power of Food: Jamie Oliver quotation

Since I’ve run out of British detective shows to watch lately, I’ve turned to documentaries and TED Talks for my evening relaxation. While learning about Viking explorers, the evolution of humans, the “moral molecule,” and a secret river under Dublin has been quite riveting, the video I watched this evening struck a deeper cord. Jamie Oliver’s TED talk on the power of food (to do good or, as is often the case in this country, bad) renewed my vigor for healthy living and eating. I’ve been following (more or less- cookie butter is a weakness, okay!?) a plant-based diet for six months now, and contrary to what you might think, this lifestyle has introduced me to so many new ways of cooking, new food to try, and new methods to make eating and cooking easier, more delicious, and fun. I’ve felt better, ran faster (marathon PR!), and found the joy of making a home cooked meal. I love Jamie’s approach to the power of food: that it should be a part of the daily ritual that makes our lives rich and interesting. And healthy.

Cheers!

p.s. Jamie’s website has some great vegan recipes as well! Here are the ones I’m particularly excited to try:

these streets

For a long time, I could never justify purchasing a beautiful new digital SLR camera. After all, I wasn’t a photographer. Sure, I have a degree in art and I create a blog that relies so much on imagery. But still, I was no Sartorialist, and I never could be. It was almost if I had convinced myself that there were so many people- bloggers, artists, whoever- being such amazing photographers that there was not room left for an ammeter to try her hand. And that who would bother looking at my work, as rudimentary as it would be, when they could look at a professional’s!?

But the truth it, no professional is having the same experiences that I’m having now: traveling, exploring my new city, finding my personal style, working in fashion, becoming a vegan athlete. And that is reason enough for me to grab a camera and shoot away. So join me on the next step with Mia Prima Casa, as I experiment and dive even deeper into what it means to be who I am, digital SLR and all.

Cheers!

p.s. Explore the streets I’ve been walking and running and  driving and riding on for a year now. Pittsburgh is a city of grit and charm, so take a moment to catch a glimpse:

Let’s Get High (Waisted Swimwear)

High waisted swim suit bottoms could quite possibly be the best swim trend to ever return. Slimming and comfy (if you invest in a well-fitting suit), slightly modest but still totally sexy, I dove right into this trend. (Ok, I’m done with the puns, now, I swear.)
